Bio

Hello, my name is Cara!  I hold a Master of Music degree from the University of Toronto and am an award-winning composer who has been teaching piano and theory for over ten years. I am especially good at communicating with children and we have a lot of fun together while learning about music. I have taught students from many different backgrounds and skill levels. Many of my piano students have achieved high marks on piano RCM exams. I also teach intermediate theory and harmony and have brought my students successfully through RCM exams for those subjects. I often improvise and compose to demonstrate new concepts in theory and harmony. My compositions have been performed by the Amadeus Choir of Greater Toronto, the Toronto Children’s Chorus, and the Trillium Brass Quintet. Currently, I am writing my first full stage musical, “Straw to Gold,” based on the fairy-tale Rumpelstiltskin. Whether you are a beginner or intermediate student, child or adult, come learn with me and increase your skills!

Teaching Info

In my lessons, I create a fun and engaging atmosphere so that students can develop a love of the piano and music. I encourage their creativity if they are interested in composition. I tailor the lessons to meet the student’s specific goals. Some of my students are beginners, so I focus on building their fundamental note-reading abilities and their understanding of rhythm.  Others wish to take piano exams according to the RCM curriculum, so I strive to make them as successful as they can be.  Still other students want to learn the piano solely for their own enjoyment, and they bring specific song requests which we work on together. However you wish to travel on your musical journey, I can help you achieve your goals!
