Bio
With private voice lessons for students of all ages, Kaylee will find the way to bring the love of music into your life!
Study classical voice, musical theatre, popular music, or music theory in a beautiful home studio in the neighborhood of Somerset, Calgary!
Kaylee Read is a mom of two, singer, voice instructor, and founder of the Sing with Kaylee music studio located in Calgary, Alberta. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Alberta and has been involved with various opera programs such as Opera on the Avalon, Opera NUOVA, and the Center for Opera Studies in Italy (COSI). Her love of music was fostered at a young age through musical theatre and choir and has since transformed into a passion for teaching. Kaylee ran a successful private studio in Lethbridge before relocating back to her home town of Calgary in 2018. Kaylee now boasts a diverse and exciting studio where she offers private voice lessons to singers of all ages and abilities, summer music camps, and mom/tot music and movement classes in collaboration with Tough Mama Fitness. Members of the studio are active in various music and arts organizations in Calgary, perform at open mic nights, compete in the Calgary Vocal Festival, Calgary Performing Arts Festival, Youth Singers, and are completing RCM Exams.
Kaylee is currently active in the Calgary music community as a member of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association (ARMTA) as student recital convener. She is also a member of the National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS) and acting as the Southern Alberta Branch’s social media coordinator. Kaylee has the honor of singing with the Okotoks Alliance Church worship team under the leadership of Pastor Tim Korthius. Sunday church services are in person at 10am as well as streamed live on Facebook. Sing with Kaylee students are fortunate to have the opportunity to perform in many recitals at OAC.
Teaching Info
“I have used my musical knowledge and abilities to help singers not only find their voices, but use them in a meaningful way, whether it be in performance, public speaking, or artistic expression. I use my technical training in classical voice to equip singers with the skills necessary for any type of music. Although we strive for musical excellence, I have also been able to cultivate confidence in my students that will carry into other aspects of their lives, whether they continue in music or not. More than anything, I want my students to believe in their abilities, believe their voices are worth sharing, and believe their art will affect those who listen.”
LESSONS
Please read the following NEW updated studio policies.
Kaylee’s Committment
I promise to give my students the highest level of musical education I can possibly provide. I am determined to help my students reach their goals whatever they may be. I believe all students should strive to build healthy vocal technique, produce beautiful sound, and develop engaging performance skills.
Student’s Expectation
Students are expected to arrive on time (or five minutes early!) with their music binder, homework journal, water bottle, and a positive and willing attitude that will allow us to work productively! Students and parents must understand that learning to sing is a long process. No matter what your goal is, you must be patient and willing to do the work!
SESSIONS & FEES
-
Students are expected to continue study until the end of each registered session (Fall-Winter, summer, or Sweat & Sing six week sessions).
-
Monthly lesson fees are due on the 1st of every month. Payment can be made by etransfer or postdated cheques.
-
There is a $35 annual non-refundable registration fee for the Sept-June session.
-
Monthly payments are based on the number of lessons the student takes throughout the year, divided into 10 equal payments. Monthly payments are NOT based on the number of lessons per month and Holiday Breaks are excluded from your tuition. This way, no matter what day of the week a student has their lesson, by the end of the season you will have attended a minimum of the lessons you have paid for (additional cost for extra lessons).
-
Additional Fees:
-
Theory Books ($18-30 per level)
-
Accompanist Fees for recitals (performance in optional)
-
Festival Registration Fees (participation is optional)
-
Any additional lessons are charged at a per lesson cost.
-
Lesson LENGTH & Format
Students have the option of 45 and 60 minute individual weekly lessons.
All voice students are required to study music theory. Lessons will be divided into Voice & Theory (ie. 30 minutes voice, 15 minutes theory for a 45 minute lesson).
The first half of each voice lesson will be spent on warm-ups and technical exercises centered around a classical Bel Canto (beautiful singing) approach. The second half will be spent developing performance skills while studying a variety of genres and repertoire.
REPERTOIRE
Students can study Classical Voice, Musical Theatre, and Popular Music. Students wanting to study popular music will still be required to study classical technique and repertoire to help facilitate their technical growth.
